I understand that thumbpulling is considered ‘cope’ However, there is a surprisingly decent amount of evidence to suggest otherwise, exhibit A: Imad skywalker claims to have done thumbpulling which widened his maxilla making him appear better. Obviously you cannot go off word of mouth in scenarios but many others claim to have done it as well. Exhibit B: https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZTr6G4DYm/
This video provides decent evidence as to why it may not be cope, in summary he says it is effective but not as effective as a palate expander due to the forces that a thumb compared to an expander can put on the maxilla, meaning it will expand your maxilla at the end of the day but just not as fast as an expander would obviously because it’s applying more pressure for a longer period of time. It’s suggested to do it 6-10x a day for 90-120 seconds with strong pressure.
Obviously the idea came from Oscar patel commonly referred to as “Jester patel” for not knowing what a maxilla is, and ever since then the idea of thumbpulling was shunned. In theory thumbpulling should work but i’d assume it depends on the age of the person (obviously the younger the better) but it makes sense for the maxilla to expand with pressure being applied as the maxilla is still ‘soft’ during puberty, this is my first post and thought and I just wanted to see with the rest of the community, what do you guys think?
