FIRSTLY - What is the nasion?
- The nasion is the point that dips in at the top of the nose , right between the inner ends of the eyebrows.
WHY is this important for facial aesthetics?
- The nasion is one of 3 landmarks used to measure the facial convexity angle (when not using the browridge of course)
- Having a recessed nasion can make ur side profile resemble that of a neanderthal and throw off the entire facial convexity angle.
- P.S. A recessed nasion can distort almost every single angle that references the cranial base. It makes the midface look more convex and retrusive, even if the jaws themselves look normal.
- Here I circled the point of the nasion and as you can see, the neanderthal skull has a much more acute facial convexity angle due to the nasion.
- So, a recessed nasion appears to be neanderthalian , but on a person how does this actually look?
- Using the power of morphs , I have warped jordan barrets side profile to have a recessed nasion.

HOW TO TELL IF YOUR NASION IS RECESSED:
- Touch test:
- You can get a rough idea through getting a feel of the area.
- Feel the bone between the eyes at the nasal root and if it feels set back compared to the browridge and mid-nose it may be recessed.
- Visual analysis:
- look at the bridge of your nose
- normal nasion: smooth + blends well, slightly convex line from forehead to nose
-recessed nasion: noticeable dip or flattening at the top of the nose to the eye level.
