So this has been known for a while now, but I haven't seen a thread on it, so I thought I'd make one.
Dogs and Cats are genuinely the cheat code to happiness. I personally prefer dogs, but cats also have similar effects, though the mechanism is different.
So if you don't know, dogs lower our cortisol, and raise oxytocin naturally (without having to do anything)
Cats, on the other hand, spread a parasite (via their feces) called Toxoplasma gondii. This is what is responsible for altering our dopamine receptors in the presence of cats.
Some studies note a potential link between Toxoplasma gondii and dopamine and Test. " Possible mechanisms by which T. gondii may affect human behavior include its effect on dopamine and on testosterone."
The presence of this parasite, and its potential psychomotor effects on humans have led me to believe that dogs are superior, but do wtv u want.
The important thing here is that you are utilizing the lowered state of stress around these animals. Try visiting a dog park if you are stressed out, even looking at photos of dogs can lower cortisol.
If you are a cat person, that's fine, try to spend time around them, and petting them also lowers cortisol. It's personal preference, so do what you prefer, but I HIGHLY recommend doing one of these since it will make you feel better.
If you DNR, then you have a sub-60 IQ
I added a photo of my dog in case you wanna see him :)
