INTRODUCTION
So I was watching Hexumlite's TikTok and I came across a very interesting argument for why men are actually just as hypergamous as women, however, with nuances in place. I actually believe men are just as hypergamous as foids too, and this thread will just be going through why I actually believe this as my second thread on Looksmax.gg. This will be very much theory-based and admittedly poorly researched as this was something I thought of on the fly, so just a warning as of now, and also open to discussion on this and education further. So, without further ado, let's begin as to why I believe Men and Women are both hypergamous.
DEFINITION OF HYPERGAMY
Now, the official definition of hypergamy according to Google, hypergamy stems from the Greek "hyper" (which means above), and gamos (which means marriage), and typically the definition is the practice of marrying into a "higher class". Another definition I found is "The act of practice of seeking a spouse or romantic partner with a higher social, economic or cultural status than one's own". A lot of phrases which many people are familiar with are phrases such as "dating up" or "marrying up". So, if you didn't exactly know what hypergamy was, now you know what it is.
HYPERGAMY IN WOMEN
If you're in the blackpill/redpill/manosphere space, you'll obviously know that hypergamy in women is very much real. Hypergamy in women has always existed, and it has never been a new concept. Women have used hypergamy typically to survive in history, such as in ancient South Asian (Indian) tradition with the concept of Anuloma, which is a traditional Hindu law which was a "natural" marriage where a man from a higher caste married a woman from a lower caste. Pre-Industrial China also had records of Chinese marriage patterns which indicated female hypergamy, which resulted from female infanticide (the deliberate and intentional killing of newborn baby girls). Nowadays, the evidence for hypergamy in women is overwhelming, with women finding 80% of men unattractive (according to OKCupid data) while men finding 60% of women average or above.
Typically, looks do 100% matter into how a woman sees you, and are the most important thing. (You'd know this from being in the LM or Blackpill spaces). Women also put a huge emphasis on your status and money when it comes to dating up. And that's one major difference from men vs women, which I'll explain.
HYPERGAMY IN MEN
Now, this section comes with nuance. I believe hypergamy in men definitely exists, however, the reason as to why it's not as highlighted is because of this simple fact. Men just do not have that same level of choice when it comes to choosing a suitable partner. The average woman operates from a point of choice, while the average man operates from a point of "whatever I can get". Attractive men however, particularly good-looking, high PSL men, do operate from a point of choice. Men value a woman's beauty, looks, fertility, and youth and don't actually have any real emphasis on a woman's status and money. I believe a lot of men, given the choice and option, would date a more attractive woman. 20% of men admit to cheating at least once, compared to 13% of women (marriagescience.com). Among millenials and Gen Z, both men and women are increasingly cheating for the same reasons: needs are not being met at home. On dating apps, the top 1% of men dominate and have access to most women. This implies attractive men have choice, and if men value beauty, look, fertility and youth, most likely, an attractive man will go for the woman who most fits this bill. A lot of average men do not have this choice, so they are unable to exercise hypergamy.
It's human nature to want the best partner possible, therefore to get the best partner possible, being hypergamous is part of human nature. That's why humans have the concept of infidelity in the first place. If given the choice, men would date the woman they find most attractive and most fertile, just like women.
