Maxilla = Upper jaw

It depends on how much the maxilla is recessed, but the most obvious sign is that your face looks like a crescent from the side and your nose having a bump, the face generally looks like it is being "sucked" into the skull.
It being recessed also causes other bones to lack forward growth like the infraorbitals (upper maxilla under the eyeball) leading to the popular eyebags.
