(I wrote a nice organized thread before but I accidentally deleted the tap and it went away so I'm doing this fast)

IBA angle is a measurement developed by Jordan Wood designed to see the upper maxillary projection. Where you pin point the Intertragic notch, Browridge, Ala of nose.
View: https://youtu.be/m_Dve8wh6Mo

(Jordan Wood himself "pre-ascension")
Why it fails:

1- Browridge Prominence
If someone has a very prominent browridge it pushes point B (the browridge) forward. Which makes the angle narrower and lower. For example I will be using browridge daddies Henry Cavill and Ian Somerhalder.

As you can see they both got 51-52 angle. Which is considered pretty recessed. Even though they don't have maxillary recession. (Or that big of it.)
Meanwhile:

Suddenly he has a MUCH "better maxilla".

2- Ear Setness
If someone has low set ears. It lowers point A. Making the measurement lower.

3- Soft Tissue
If someone has high edema in his nose and subcutaneous fat it can make the measurement look worse.

Which is fine really. But if you're eyeballing it. It'll mess up things a lot.

Off Topic:

he always uses this picture of Brooke Shields in his video as an example:
Screenshot_20260319-041534.jpg

Which is NOT her real side. She's bringing her face and neck very forward. And in the full picture she isn't standing straight at all. Her real side looks more like this (although the angle is still somehow not ideal.)

Which is still very good. Elite even. But not like the first one. I see ppl using that all the time and it pisses me off because it's literally morphed.

There's a bad placement of a photo. His photo actually. It's supposed to be after "Jordan Wood himself, pre-ascension" but it didn't get placed properly at all. You can see the pic in attachments though.

interesting

wouldn't a better angle be from porion -> nasion -> subnasale (for maxilla) or pogonion (for mandible)?

Yes. But easier ones are facial convexity angle (if it's your pic/pic you're sure isn't frauded) or the maxillary triangle.
